Erase the Hate Theme

Erase the Hate: You Can Make a Difference

Vision:

A community where all races, religions, and cultures live in peace, harmony, and mutual respect.

Mission Statement:

The Erase the Hate Campaign is a collaboration of Toledo-area religious, educational, and community organizations and agencies.  We work together to develop programs that encourage an appreciation of diversity.

Sample Themes:

You know hate when you see it.  It can take many forms – some obviously violent, others more secretive – all of them hurtful to others.  It may involve:

  • Bullying, hurtful teasing, name-calling, picking on certain kids, excluding certain kids
  • Malicious gossip, spreading vicious rumors about someone, in person or on-the Internet
  • Racism – treating others badly because of their color or ethnic group
  • Religious intolerance – treating others badly because of their religion
  • Mistreating those who have a physical or mental disability
  • Stereotyping / Negative labels – treating others badly because of an image you have of their group without really knowing them
  • Treating someone badly because you think they are different
  • Anything that prevents people from getting along well together

Now think of some ways to ‘Erase’ the above actions.

Brainstorm, in a group or by yourself, some positive ways to help our community be free of hate.

What are the ingredients for a more harmonious community – compassion, understanding, respect, acceptance?
