Faith Gardens

Many faith organizations are committing to environmental stewardship in various ways. Using some of their land for gardens is one example of this emphasis. Here is a sample list of Faith Gardens in the Toledo area. Please add to our list.

Bowling Green Community Gardens

These gardens were started by a student organization called Freedom at BGSU. Our goal is to provide fresh local produce to those in need, and promote self sufficiency throughout the Bowling Green Community.

Cedar Creek Church, Perrysburg

· established in spring of 2009

· garden size 30’ x 46’ with walkways in between raised rows of approx. 4 feet across.

· worked with Toledo Grows for the plants - had a variety of vegetables, herbs & flowers.

· volunteer base of 14 people, some children, met regularly at least once a week

· sent food to the soup kitchen 7 different times & at times food was taken home by the volunteers.

· “We had fun, fellowship, & established lasting friendship.”

Mustard Seed, an ecumenical ministry of the churches in Point Place / Shoreland area of Toledo Ohio offers direct help and referrals to individuals and families and also operates a choice pantry Feed Your Neighbor site. Mustard Seed is located at 5420 302nd St. Supporting congregations include Point Place United Church of Christ, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Messiah Lutheran Church, RiverPoint Ministries (United Methodist), Crosspoint Community, and Northpoint Church of the Nazarene.
